Originally known as Mitragyna Speciosa but more commonly known as Kratom, this tropical evergreen tree is from the Rubiaceae Family. The Rubiaceae Family is also home to another well-known plant – coffee! The different strains of Kratom originate from the various vein colors that grow in the plant, creating the names “red”, “green”, and “white”. 

The effects of Kratom are similar to that of its cousin, coffee. With a smaller amount, you’ll receive the properties that give you energy and focus throughout your day. It may also decrease appetite. 

When you increase the amount, you may begin to feel euphoric or extremely calm. This level has also been known to work well for relief.

Kratom leaf is ground into a fine powder (or crushed if desired) to be consumed several different ways. Kratom is not currently approved by the FDA and several states have already banned this plant.

The “active ingredients” in kratom—mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine—interact with the same brain receptors as opioids. Like opioids, repeated use of kratom, may potentially be, habit-forming, addictive and result in withdrawal symptoms like irritability, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbance, and among others. Always follow recommendations and instructions of the manufacturer.
